More information has emerged in the investigation into the death of 26-year-old Keith Daniel Williamson of Lutz.

Williamson died following a motorcycle accident that occurred Feb. 20 on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Preliminary reports were that Williamson’s motorcycle was headed eastbound “at a high rate of speed” on the Causeway when it struck a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle that was “positioned in an active construction zone in which the inside lane of travel was closed,” according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the highway patrol sent out new details today, Feb. 22.

“After obtaining additional statements from witnesses and conducting further investigation of the scene and vehicles, it has been determined that the patrol car, which had been parked in the inside lane, was moving to the outside lane when it was struck by the motorcycle,” Gaskins wrote in an email.

Jenna Elizabeth Scott, 24, of Valrico, a passenger on Williamson’s motorcycle, was critically injured in the crash.

The accident, Gaskins wrote, remains under investigation.
