Obama Comes to Tampa Thursday

The campaign is calling the event a “grassroots rally,” but has released few other details.

President Barack Obama kicks off a two-day whirlwind campaign tour this Wednesday with stops in six battleground states, including one in Tampa.

Dubbed the “America Forward!” tour, the campaign blitz is designed to help the president reach “as many voters as possible about the critical choice in this election -- moving America forward toward an economy built to last with a strong middle class versus going back to the same policies that crashed our economy in the first place,” a campaign media release states.

The tour starts in Iowa on Oct. 24 and includes rallies in Denver and Las Vegas that day. On Thursday, Obama will appear in Tampa before making stops in other states.

The Tampa event is described as a “grassroots rally.” The campaign has released no other details about the appearance here, but says they are forthcoming.

It is unclear at this point if tickets will be available for the Tampa rally or if it will be a private event. The campaign also has not released a location for the rally.

The President's visit comes on the heels of The Tampa Tribune's endorsement of challenger Gov. Mitt Romney for president.

"President Obama may have good intentions, but he is simply taking the nation in the wrong direction," the newspaper's editorial board wrote. "Seasoned executive Romney would come to office ready to put the country on the course to more freedom and prosperity."

The Tampa Bay Times, however, has officially endorsed President Obama.

"We wish the economic recovery was more vigorous, and we would like the president to present a sharper vision for a second term," the Times editorial board wrote in its endorsement. "But Obama has capably steered the nation through an incredibly difficult period at home and abroad, often with little help from Congress. The next four years will not be easy for whoever occupies the Oval Office, but Obama has been tested by harsh circumstance and proven himself worthy of a second term."

Pres. Obama clearly deserves four years. Even though the Republicans tried everything to make him fail, Obama saved our automotive industry, he respects women and he stands up for them on issues like equal pay and reproductive rights, he defends the middle class safety net against Republican attempts to destroy it, he protects Medicare and refuses to allow it to be turned into a voucher system, and he refuses to allow Republicans to eliminate middle class deductions in order to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy. Romney was a failed one term Governor in Massachusetts who was so unpopular that he didn't even try to run for a second term. Current polls show that Romney is so disliked in Massachusetts that Romney is no longer even contesting the state and he will lose to Pres Obama in a landslide in November. People should trust the voters in Massachusetts. The people there will not support Mitt Romney and neither should the American people.

The Tampa Bay Times got it right when they endorsed Pres. Obama for president. Unless you are in the top 1%, Mitt Romney has nothing to offer you. Etch-A-Sketch Romney has changed his positions so frequently that I'm not even sure that he knows where he stands at the moment. Romney is like a used car salesman who will say anything to make a sale. In Massachusetts, Romney was a liberal, in the Republican primaries he was a conservative, and now he's a moderate. Mitt Romney is actually just a political opportunist that you just can't trust.

I agree with you, Steve, but you won't change anybody's mind - not that you're trying to. Have you noticed how ugly politics have gotten this election? I blame it on the congress and people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck (who are greedy entertainers). I think racism has a lot to do with it too.

After four years without a budget - including two years where the dems controlled the house & the senate i have no hope for change (improvement that is) in the economy as long as obama is in charge. Almost anyone else would be an improvement. If you want to see where Obama"care: will leave us take a look at greece, spain & to a lesser extent italy. Canada is privatizing it's socialized healthcare & so are many other countries that have socialized medicine (that are not dictitorial) - I am not aware of any other republic/democracy moving toward socialized medicine

Dan if you are going to post, at least get your facts straight. They did not have control of the House and Senate for 2 yrs. Here's the REAL facts for you. After suffering a seizure during Barack Obama's inaugural l
luncheon, Senator Kennedy’s health forced him to retreat to Massachusetts. Also Senator Al Franken of Minnesota had not been seated because the previous Senator, Norm Coleman challenged the election results.
So at the beginning of his Presidency, Democrats had 57 elected senators…55 Democrats and 2 Independents. May 15, 2009 Senator Robert Byrd was admitted to the hospital reducing the number of sitting Senators to 55 Democratic members and 2 Independents.(57)
July 7, 2009 Al Franken (D) was sworn in after the election dispute over the Minnesota seat was decided in his favor. Senator Kennedy continued to recuperate at his home in Massachusetts and was unable to cast any more votes; Senator Byrd was still in the hospital. The Senate had 56 sitting Democratic members and 2 Independents. 58
July 21, 2009 Senator Byrd returned to the Senate making the count 59 seats. No Senator Kennedy died August 25, 2009.
The Kennedy seat was vacant from August 25 - September 24 when Paul G. Kirk was appointed to occupy his seat until the completion of a special election. The swearing-in of Kirk gave the Democrats a 60-seat majority.

Democrats had a 60 seat majority from September 24, 2009 thru February 4, 2010. 4 months; not 2 years!!

Though I am not an Obama fan, it is really telling how many people are disrespectful to our President. In the end he is still our President. It shows how divided we are as a nation and how people are thinking by partisanship instead of American Society. Both parties are to blame for this issue, but it also shows the average intelligence on how the system works by our average voter.

I disagree, Michael D, that the comments show anything about our nation other than some of its citizens stalk perfectly normal articles and display hideous manners . I have come to doubt that they have any political thoughts at all. They just use these articles to try to shock the rest of us with as much as they can get away with on Patch. I am sure on other sites, they have more graphic language at their disposal. And neither political party has any responsibility or blame for the actions of these people who make senseless comments just to irritate others.

Lynda,
See I have to disagree with you on that the political parties have no responsibility. They are the ones that fund the attack ads of half-truths that flood tv, radio and other mediums. They fund them through the different "funds". Now people will only buy what they want to hear. The people who tune into Fox News or MSNBC do so because they are selling the message they want to hear. But they are no longer selling news and bi-partisanship. But just hate, if you do not agree with me, then you are wrong.

Thank you Michael. I have never seen such disrespect for a president, even after we were lied to about WMD's and brought into Iraq and we had no business being there. No, I think its party politics, along with racism in some individuals is what has turned this election into a travesty before it happens. Now with voter fraud, and voting machines being invested in by Bain and the Romneys, there is really no chance for a fair election.

I have to say, the Tampa Tribune endorsement that I just read on TBO is one of the poorest works of "reasoning" I have ever read. It praises Obama (rightly for the stimulus that we benefited from here and that saved us from falling into a depression), So how exactly would Romney's anti-stimulus stance have saved our economy?

They go on to praise (rightly again) the President's foreign policy - except for the 3 men killed by a terrorist attack. You have got to kidding me! So the Tribune has empowered such terrorists with deciding our election for us. This editorial is exactly the type of thing an enemy of the USA loves.

And they have concerns about Romney's crazy statements on Russia and China, as well as his plans to drill everywhere (aka off the gulf beaches). Those concerns ARE why anyone who cares about our future would NOT vote for Romney. All we need now, when we are starting to recover and phase out of the war, is to jump into an arms race and trade war with Russia and China. And don't we have enough oil sitting at the bottom of the Gulf already? Crazy.

One last thing - you all realize that Romney point-blank told us in the debate that on his first day in office he would designate China as a currency manipulator...and if he actually did that our economy would most likely tank. And I mean tank. Sure China is a competitor, so let's compete back. But if you designate them in that extreme way, that means two things:
1) tarrifs - which is effectively a BIG tax on our everyday purchases people. When you go to Walmart, the TVs and iphones and everything will be more expensive.

2) China takes the money it makes from all of us buy its super cheap products (since they pay slave labor prices and have no pollution laws, etc) and they invest in US treasury bonds. If they stopped or even threatened to slow that process, we would be in bread lines in the USA.

Take a look at this article to see details - http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2012/1017/Would-Romney-really-dare-to-tag-China-a-currency-manipulator

This is serious stuff, so please look at the facts of what Romney has said is his Day 1 action.

Up until a few weeks ago, Obama was eating Romney’s lunch and pretty much had his second term of “RULE” in the bag. Then the Obama administration completely dropped the ball by insulting the American Public (and electorate) with their attempt to cover up the September 11th Terrorist Attack on our Libyan Consulate.

Obama again insulted America during the second Presidential debate when he claimed that on September 12th in a Rose Garden address, he specifically stated “that this was an act of terror”. Once again straying from his repeated claims (before and after the debate) that the attack was a random riot due to the YouTube video. EXTREMELY POOR JUDGEMENT by the Obama campaign.

It is very unfortunate that American heroes are slaughtered then used as pawns by our elected, thug, hack politicians. Our once Great Nation is now in a very precarious position. Many Independents, Democrats and Republicans alike are becoming more disgusted with the way our government is “Transforming”.

Two weeks from tomorrow, America will give Mitt Romney the chance to get our nation back on track. America will have a Commander In Chief that celebrates success of the individual while standing fast to maintain Global, Military Superiority as protecting American Citizens is Job One.

God Bless Our Military and God Bless America!

Are you done Spamming this message Elayne. It's honestly a good move by any candidate to go on the talk shows/late night shows. It humanizes him. W. Bush was the master of that. The average voter really doesn't understand our political system, as you can read in a lot of this blog posts. So they want someone they feel they comfortable with.

Everytime read something about Mitt Romney or conservative Republicans, I am reminded of a quote from John Kenneth Galbraith: "The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

I have to agree with John Kenneth Galbraith's negative opinion of modern conservatives. In my opinion, the GOP is now basically made up of several major groups. First, the Religious Fundamentalists, who believe that nobody else should have any personal freedoms that are opposed to their religious beliefs. Second, The Tea Partiers, who worship Grover Norquist's tax pledge and don't believe that the wealthy should ever have to pay an additional dollar in taxes. The Anti-Science Group, who deny things like global warming and evolution even though the scientific evidence is overwhelming. Finally the Birthers, whose racists beliefs cause them to declare that Pres. Obama is not a real American and was actually born in Kenya. Unfortunately today, the Party of Lincoln has become the Party of Rush Limbaugh, Todd Akin, Gov. Rick Scott, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich.

It does seem that sheriff Nocco likes to see his pic in the papers any chance he can . Some people think this is the case just untill the election is over ? Iam not sure about that ? What I do know is unlike sheriff White , sheriff Nocco seems to be very interested in arresting the prescription drug dealers and has done well in my opinion with this. The only problem I have as we speak with sheriff Nocco is that he is a republican . The republicans have fought against a prescription drug database for years . Sen Fasano another rep, under pressure from many people , fought for a database and got a watered down version passed. However its not mandatory for the doctors to use it . They say only 2% of doctors are using it ??? This is the only way the reps would pass this law and refused to let the tax payers fund it . I believe this was an effort to see it go away . Why are the reps protecting the doctors ? President Obama said a few years ago he would work on a national drug database that would be mandatory for the doctors to use . Why would the reps not do the same in Florida? Why are the drug companies being protected along with the doctors ? A mandatory database is a no brainer that would take many prescription drugs off our streets . Pasco county is the worst of 67 counties for this abuse.

I bought into the name calling and distasteful responding which is unlike me and "out of character". I don't hate anyone, including Gov Romney or any Right Wing person. I disagree with their philosophies and tactics. My "choice of words were perhaps not the best and I in retrospect should have been more diplomatic as other should have also.. I think that this election is about is preserving this Country and hope either Romney or Obama does the right things including Congress. This involves economic issues,International,Ethical, etc. To me it should be a Bi-Partisanship effort. Congress shouldn't vote "no" because the President is Democrat or the other way around. This is what bothers me the most in our current situation. Many Bills that would have helped better America was "knocked down" by the GOP Congress who covered the veto. It was a partisan thing rather than a "what's right" thing! I on the other hand wasn't thrilled about Obama's Cabinet with exception of Hillary and Biden. In some ways, the others in the Cabinet slowed down the process of recovery in addition to cleaning up the mess George Bush left us from 2000' to 2008'. No matter who gets in, we must hold our administration "accountable" by being relentless in writing to our State elected officials.I hope everyone is well on this beautiful day. TTYL

Hey guys I came across an article in my old hometown paper that really was unbiased and laid out Romneys record for the 4 yrs he ran our state. I hope all of you will read it before you vote, whether you have decided who you are voting for or not. It is lengthy but comes from a reputable paper that would be sued if the facts were not true.. As for politicians being in the banks and pharmaceuticals pockets I think you will find the Bristol Myers job info near the end quite interesting. That was a company that Romney brags about that he brought to Mass and helped to bring jobs to our state. Enjoy the read and no matter what your decision be sure to vote. This election is very important! http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2012/09/05/governor-romney-faced-similar-economic-situation-obama-with-similar-results/cfq5gCjleJzD1uJhnxrPYN/story.html
