Charity Garage Sale to Benefit Pediatric Cancer Research

A "huge" yard sale is scheduled in nearby Carrollwood this Saturday, Sept. 28, and all proceeds from sales will go to the Lawrence A Martucci Benefit Corp.

Used furniture, toys, clothes and household items have never been so important.

A “huge” yard sale is scheduled in Carrollwood this Saturday, Sept. 28, and all proceeds from sales will go to the Lawrence A Martucci Benefit Corp., or LAMB, which raises money for pediatric cancer research.

“LAMB was founded by my dear friend Luana Martucci de Paloma in honor of her brother Lawrence who passed away from a rare cancer at age 6,” said Yvette Manes, a committee member for LAMB. “We are hosting several fundraisers throughout the year and could use as much help as possible getting the word out.”

Manes said LAMB last year donated $20,000 to Children's Cancer Research Group through 1Voice Foundation. The yard sale raised $800, a figure Manes hopes to double this time around.

The Tampa-based LAMB was founded in 2011. Its mission is to support other local non-for-profit research groups in the search for a cure — or the prevention of — pediatric cancers. The charity’s namesake passed away in 1992 after a long fight.

“Luana never forgot what her brother went through,” LAMB writes in its literature. “For two years Luana witnessed Lawrence being poked and prodded and in a constant state of agony.”

The yard sale will be held 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 2616 Carroll Lake Street. For more information, visit www.lawrenceamartucci.com on the web.
