Lutz Centennial Honored With Post Office Postmark

The postmark will only be available during July at the Lutz branch of the post office, including at the July 4 parade.

Lutz’s 2013 centennial is being honored in many ways: through parades, via concerts and, now, in ink.

The Lutz Centennial Committee has worked with the local post office to create a pictorial postmark celebrating not only 100 years of Lutz but the establishment of the Lutz post office.

Committee member Janet Hardy called the postmark “very unique.”

“We’re hoping people will be excited,” she told Patch.com. “This is going to be very limited edition.”

The post office on July 4 will have a tent set up between the train depot and the community center where residents can have standard-size envelopes postmarked and then either handed back or kept for mailing. Blank sheets of paper can be postmarked, too, for framing purposes.

Unable to attend the July 4 parade? Residents can visit the Lutz post office anytime during July to have a letter or sheet of paper stamped.

Hardy said the pictorial postmark will include the centennial dates, an image of the train depot and the words “Lutz Centennial Station, Lutz FL 33549.”
