Lutz Centennial Sizzles with Chili Cook-Off

Organizers are looking for some lean, mean chili cooking machines for the upcoming event.

Can you whip up a mean pot of chili?

If so, the organizers of the Lutz Centennial Chili Cook-Off want to hear from you. They’re putting together a field of chili chefs that includes wannabes, experts and novices for a community event Nov. 2.

“Your chili could be judged the best in Lutz by none other than Steve Otto, chili judge extraordinaire and long-time Tampa Tribune columnist,” a callout for participants states.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2 on the grounds of the Lutz Train Depot, at the corner of Lutz Lake Fern Road and U.S. 41. The competition allows team participation with a single chef and two assistants. Registration for teams is $25. The event features two categories – one for families and individuals and the other for clubs and organizations.

Entrants must cook their chili on site and provide their own LP gas-cooking appliance since electricity isn’t available.

Winners in each category, along with winners of the Team Spirit and Guv’na’s Choice award, will each win $50 and a trophy.
