Readers React: New County Trash Collection

Some aren't so happy about Hillsborough County's new trash collections system roll out.

Patch reported earlier this week that in September, Hillsborough County solid waste customers will get a new residential garbage and recycling collection service that includes sturdy roll carts to transport your trash to the curb.

In August the carts will begin being delivered to more than 200,000 homes in the county. The carts will include instructions, collection days and service provider information.

When the new service starts, the carts will be emptied by automated collection, a process that uses a mechanical arm on the collection vehicle instead of workers lifting cans and bins by hand.

News of the change hasn't been well received by everyone. At least one Lutz Patch reader wrote this about the new system:

"Here is a Local Government Scam if I ever saw one," wrote Patch reader George Carlson. "I don't believe this thing will work and it will wind up Costing Taxpayers may too much. It appears to me that some one at the Commissioner level made some money on this at the expense of Residents."

Do you agree with Carlson or are you happy about the change? Tell us in the comments?
