Killin' Em With Comedy at Open Mic Night

Side Splitters in Carrollwood regularly holds open mic nights, and Patch swung by Sept. 22 for a few chuckles, to find out what motivates these performers and what the secret is to succeeding in stand-up.

If you think you've got the comedic chops, Side Splitters in Carrollwood wants to hear from you.
The laugh factory regularly holds open mic nights, and Patch swung by Sept. 22 for a few chuckles, to find out what motivates these performers and what the secret is to succeeding in stand-up. The answer to the latter is somewhat hard to pin down, it turns out.
"There's a lot of moving parts," said Side Splitters employee Bob Bazer.
While some performers give it a shot once and never return, others have used the club to hone their skills and climb the comedy ladder.
Regular comic Krishna Reddy said failure breeds success in this game.
"No one starts out good," he said. Nobody. ... Even the greats started out bad."
