Local Celebrities Are Lining Up for Lutz Centennial Celebration

A host of big names in the Tampa Bay area plan to make appearances at the upcoming Lutz Centennial Chili Cook Off and Classic Car Show.

While the Lutz Centennial Chili Cook Off and Classic Car Show is still more than a month away, organizers are sharing a few secrets to entice the appetite.

The Nov. 2 event takes place at the Lutz Train Depot on U.S. 41 and will feature appearances by several local celebrities during its 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. run. The Tampa Tribune’s Steve Otto has agreed to be one of the judges and 970 WFLA’s Jack Harris plans to serve as emcee for the day, according to event spokeswoman and centennial committee member Janet Hardy.

“This has shaped up to be our biggest event of the year,” Hardy said in an email.

Residents who plan to turn out to sample the chili will be able to purchase an “official chili mug” for $5. That mug will grant spectators a chance to try the flavors whipped up by local chefs starting at noon.

While the chili is hoped to make the event sizzle, a classic car show will also roll into town that day, Hardy said. The judged event will feature classic cars, exotics and motorcycles.
