Healthcare Dispute Leaves Many Without Hospital Coverage

With the contract now expired between UnitedHealthcare and BayCare Health System, many are likely to start feeling the pinch.

For weeks, Tampa Bay area residents were warned by the BayCare Health System and UnitedHealthcare insurance that contract negotiations weren’t going well.

Letters from both parties arrived in the mail, alerting holders of UnitedHealthcare insurance policies that their doctors and favorite hospitals might no longer be covered.

The deadline to ink a new deal came and went without an agreement reached. That now means some 400,000 Tampa Bay area residents with UnitedHealthcare insurance can no longer expect coverage at 11 area hospitals, numerous doctors’ offices and a number of imaging centers and specialized centers.

In Lutz, residents who count on St. Joseph's Hospital-North for their medical care might have to go elsewhere for assistance. The expired contract affects those with standard UnitedHealthcare insurance policies and also those who have United as their carrier for Medicaid, Florida Healthy Kids and Medicare Advantage plans. Some claims will continue to be paid, but United policyholders should check with the company for more information.

The full implications of the dispute between UnitedHealthcare and BayCare are still being determined. Even so, it is clear that BayCare is the Tampa Bay region’s largest healthcare provider. In addition to St. Joseph's, the company also operates Morton Plant and St. Anthony’s hospitals.

TBO.com has compiled some information that UnitedHealthcare policy holders can use to help them navigate the coming days of finding new doctors and hospitals. The news outlet also reports that United hasn’t ruled out the possibility of further talks to get the BayCare system back on its plans.

To find out if the expiration of the BayCare contract will impact your coverage at area doctors or hospitals, call UnitedHealthcare’s customer service line, which is printed on the back of policy holder’s insurance cards.

Great Photo! Is that the setup we'll be supplying to first grade teachers nationwide? Is the NRARead More gonna chip in with a few mags? Some bullets? Body bags what ? If the black helicopters do come for you your little ak-47 + all the bullets you can afford on your little paycheck just ain't gonna do the trick. and just who are you gonna shoot at? Your kid or the one down the street that just joined the service a few days, weeks, months, or years ago? You know that kid , he's the one that wanted to Serve his country. Is he the one you want to shoot? Is she the one that scares you? Fact is you and me just don't need these kinds of vicious killing machines.

you anti-gunners are so full of never mind I am old enough to remember before there were over 40Read More thousand gun laws on the books and Americans didn't have the kind of problems that we have now not until the government got envolved did we start having all the crime that we have now. Question if the almost 40 thousand gun laws haven't made things better maybe it time to look some where else beside the government and the dumbing down of American youth. Yeah they got a degree in some sort of liberal art that was suppose to make a difference now we have a bunch of educated drug dealers but here's the stickler they just think their educated. the individual with the common sense is the one making the money and they weren't government educated with faux degrees.
