3 Ways to Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree

Hillsborough County offers residents several options for tree removal.

If it’s time to un-deck the halls at your Lutz home, Hillsborough County has three different options you can take advantage of to make sure your formerly live Christmas tree is disposed of properly.

Curbside Pickup

The county’s trash haulers will pick up formerly live trees curbside on yard waste collection days. Before tossing that tree out at the curb, make sure to:

Take off all the tinsel, lights and decorations

Cut the tree into sections that are not longer than 4 feet or more than 6 inches in diameter

Just set out on the curb with other yard waste

Yard Waste Processing

If you don’t want to wait for your next yard waste pickup day, you can take your tree to a facility in person. This option enables you to skip cutting the tree into pieces, but do be sure to remove all lights, decorations and tinsel before attempting a drop off at these locations:

  • 8001 W. Linebaugh Ave.
  • 13001 U.S. Highway 41
  • 350 Falkenburg Road

The county’s yard waste processing facilities are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except holidays. Be sure to bring a current tax bill and proper ID along to be able to access the yard waste facilities. People who are not county solid waste customers may have to pay a disposal fee.

Mulching

Residents can also turn their old trees into yard mulch they can use personally. For more information on how to recycle a live Christmas tree, contact Lynn Barber at the Hillsborough County Extension, 813-744-5519, Ext. 54105.

Great Photo! Is that the setup we'll be supplying to first grade teachers nationwide? Is the NRARead More gonna chip in with a few mags? Some bullets? Body bags what ? If the black helicopters do come for you your little ak-47 + all the bullets you can afford on your little paycheck just ain't gonna do the trick. and just who are you gonna shoot at? Your kid or the one down the street that just joined the service a few days, weeks, months, or years ago? You know that kid , he's the one that wanted to Serve his country. Is he the one you want to shoot? Is she the one that scares you? Fact is you and me just don't need these kinds of vicious killing machines.

you anti-gunners are so full of never mind I am old enough to remember before there were over 40Read More thousand gun laws on the books and Americans didn't have the kind of problems that we have now not until the government got envolved did we start having all the crime that we have now. Question if the almost 40 thousand gun laws haven't made things better maybe it time to look some where else beside the government and the dumbing down of American youth. Yeah they got a degree in some sort of liberal art that was suppose to make a difference now we have a bunch of educated drug dealers but here's the stickler they just think their educated. the individual with the common sense is the one making the money and they weren't government educated with faux degrees.
