Christmas Eve Burglar Arrested

Deputies say he broke into the same Walgreens twice.

A 28-year-old man faces burglary and theft charges after Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies say he broke into the Van Dyke Road Walgreens twice on Christmas Eve.

Robert J. Reynolds, address unknown, was arrested yesterday after a surveillance video was released to the media via YouTube. A tip was called into the sheriff’s office shortly after and Reynolds was arrested on burglary of an unoccupied structure and petit theft charges. He remains in the Hillsborough County jail today on $2.250 bond, according to jail records.

The first break in at the 3939 Van Dyke Road Walgreens happened around 1:29 p.m. Dec. 24 when a man smashed out the front window of the Lutz store. The man then helped himself to three cases of beer and two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes before leaving.

Deputies say the same man returned at 3:18 a.m. and broke into the pharmacy. During his attempt to take pain medication, the store’s alarm was activated. The man then fled.

Deputies released the YouTube video early yesterday. Reynolds was located and arrested at 6 p.m. Dec. 27.
