Florida ‘Goldilocks’ Faces 3 Charges

In a case of life imitating art, a Florida woman was jailed after homeowners found her sleeping on their couch.

A St. Augustine woman was jailed earlier this week when police say a couple returned home June 14 to discover a scene from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” playing out in their living room.

A blonde-headed, teenage stranger was sleeping on their couch, wearing the homeowner’s PJs, First Coast News reported. The couple caught the fairytale connection and snapped photos of the sleeping girl before she awoke, grabbed her clothing and fled through a back door.

“Goldilocks,” however, left behind her passport. Chancy Layton, 19, was arrested by the St. Augustine Beach Police Department on criminal mischief, burglary and larceny charges, according to St. John’s County Jail records. She was released June 15 after posting $8,000 bond.

First Coast News said that Layton took a shower at the home and helped herself to some food before she tired the pajamas and couch on for size.

Layton isn't the first Goldilocks arrested for dining and napping in other people's homes.

In 2013, police in Phoenix, Ariz., arrested Andrea Suppa, who had been dubbed the "Goldilocks Bandit," for breaking into several homes. Police in that case said the woman ate food, tried on clothes and even brushed her teeth with homeowners' toothbrushes before napping in the homes she broke into, according to MyFoxTampaBay.
