Freedom, Greco Cleared after Bullet Incident

Bullets were found on a bus this morning that delivered students to both Hillsborough County schools.

Both Greco Middle and Freedom High schools have been cleared by law enforcement officials following a morning incident where a student found bullets on a bus.

This morning’s incident was the second in two days that involved bullets being found on a Hillsborough County school bus.

Yesterday’s incident involved a bus that took students to Turner Elementary, Liberty Middle and Wharton High in New Tampa. Today it was bus No. 4219 that delivers kids to Greco Middle and Freedom High.

Both incidents results in a search of students at the involved schools and increased security on campuses as the searches were underway.

“Freedom High School was cleared,” Linda Cobbe, spokeswoman for Hillsborough County Public Schools wrote in an email this afternoon. Freedom had been on lockdown while students were questions and backpacks and belongings were searched. “No additional bullets and no weapons were found during the search of Freedom students who rode bus 4219 to school this morning.”

Cobbe said Greco was also cleared with no weapons or additional bullets found.

Unlike yesterday’s incident, no students have stepped forward to take responsibility for bringing the bullets on the bus that serves Greco and Freedom, Cobbe added.

Hillsborough County schools remain on modified lockdown this week in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn.
