Hillsborough County Crime By The Numbers

Crime in Hillsborough County was down overall in 2012 versus 2011, but that doesn't mean all areas showed improvement.

Last week’s release of Uniform Crime Report statistics by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement heralded good news for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Overall, the report showed, crime has fallen in Hillsborough County by 53.2 percent between 2007 and 2012. A comparison of the stats, however, shows that year-over-year improvements are not present in all the categories tracked in the Uniform Crime Report.

Hillsborough County showed gains in two areas between 2011 and 2012. They are:

  • Aggravated assaults – There were 1,513 reported cases in 2012 versus the 1,439 in 2011.
  • Violent crimes – 2012’s 2,152 cases showed slight gains over the 2,130 cases reported in 2011.

Want to see what crimes have been reported in Lutz?

Just visit the sheriff’s office online to search for crimes in the neighborhood. Once you get on the page, select the "crime mapping tool." From there you can zero in on crime in the Lutz area by selecting "place" and choosing "Lutz."
