Update, 8:17 a.m. Feb. 21: The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of the man killed and his female passenger. They are Keith Daniel Williamson of Lutz and Jenna Elizabeth Scott of Valrico.

A 26-year-old Lutz man is dead after the Florida Highway Patrol says his motorcycle hit a parked cruiser on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
The accident happened around 10:31 p.m. Feb. 20 as the man and 24-year-old female passenger from Valrico were heading eastbound on the Causeway just west of Bay Harbor Drive. The bike was traveling a “high rate of speed” when it struck the rear end of a Florida Highway Patrol car that was parked and had its emergency lighting activated, a highway patrol media release said.
The trooper’s car was “positioned in an active construction zone in which the inside lane of travel was closed,” the release added.
The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle upon impact. The man died at the scene, the release said. The woman was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with critical injuries.
Trooper Dawayne Maddux, 32, was uninjured in the crash.
The names of the motorcycle’s driver and passenger are not being released at this time.
