Bakas Equestrian Center Helps Disabled Find Strength

For the past 25 years Bakas Equestrian Center has been helping disabled people realize healthier more mobile lives.

Funded and operated by the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, the program provides group riding lessons, trail rides, carriage riding, parties and special events for the physically impaired and developmentally delayed public.

Riders have the opportunity to compete in a local Special Olympics, which are hosted at Bakas Equestrian Center each year. The center is located at 11510 Whisper Lake Trail in the Highland Park area of Hillsborough County.

On Sunday, Nov. 4 the center will host its second Annual Golf Tournament at the , 11602 Westchase Golf Drive in Tampa. The event is an effort to raise funds for the program and center, which serves thousands each year.

Lunch and dinner will be served, a silent auction will take place and "Buddy" the miniature horse will be on hand for photo opportunities.

Last year's event raised $9,500, said Beth Harre-Orr, Executive Director of Bakas.
