Wildlife Crossing Signs Posted Thanks to Local Student

Hannah Peterson made a difference, Learning Gate School reports.

Learning Gate student Hannah Peterson is a problem-solver.

When she saw a duo of Sandhill Cranes nearly get hit by a car in March, she took some action. After urging Learning Gate in a letter to do something to protect the wildlife near her school, the then-sixth-grade student was able to join Environmental Resource Teacher Jim McGinity at a meeting with the Hillsborough County Public Works Department, according to the school.

The county agreed to put up signs alerting motorists.

"In a few short weeks, Hillsborough County made and installed the wildlife crossing signs along Hanna Road near the school," Learning Gate's Michele Northrup said in a news release. "This is a simple example of how one person really can make a difference."
