In its latest blog on Patch, the Southwest Florida Water Management District explains what it's doing to protect the natural springs it calls "essential" to our environment and economy.
Florida's natural springs are "essential to the environment, economy, citizens and visitors of the state," according to the Southwest Florida Water Management District. That's why the agency invested more than $2.2 million in springs protection and restoration last year and has approved $3.9 million more for the coming fiscal year, SFWMD spokesperson Susanna Martinez Tarokh explains in one of her latest blogs on Patch. "There are more than 150 documented springs throughout the 16-county District, with five first magnitude spring groups that collectively discharge more than one billion gallons of water per day," Martinez Tarokh writes. Florida Lottery officials say that residents have been requesting this game for years.
The Florida Lottery has debuted another big-ticket national game – Mega Millions – that has launched with a hefty jackpot: a projected $190 million when the winning numbers are announced Friday night, May 17. Florida, along with 42 other states, offers people the chance to strike it rich, with tickets selling for $1. The record jackpot was last year, when Mega Millions paid out $656 million to three lucky winners. Drawings are Fridays and Tuesdays at 11 p.m. To enter, players must select five numbers – from one to 56 – plus a Mega Ball number, from 1-46. Mega Millions has other prizes that range from $2 to $250,000, or up to $1 million if the ticket includes Megaplier, which costs an extra $1 and can double, triple or quadruple non-jackpot…
There currently is no timeline regarding the completion of the project.
Fans of radio-controlled cars have one less place to enjoy their hobby at the moment. The RC track at Lake Park in Lutz is currently closed in preparation for an overhaul. Safety concerns necessitated the razing of a building at the site, according to Hillsborough County spokeswoman Kemly Jimenez Green. The county hopes to rebuild the building at the site at some point in the future. Right now, however, “we do not have a timeline at this time of when it will be built,” Green wrote in an email. The (Parks, Recreation and Conservation) department is looking for funding to rebuild the building, and work will be done internally by the construction section of the Parks Department.” The track is expected to re-open this Saturday (May 18) and …

This year's Bud Run Charity Auction and Poker Run will benefit three local families instead of one. The Bud Run is a non-profit organization that was formed to help local children in need. It is an all-volunteer organization principally sponsored by Pepin Distributing Company. The Bud Run has been benefiting children in need in the Tampa Bay area for the past 10 years and has donated over $160,000 to local children. The Bud Run Auction and Poker Run brings together the motorcycle community and many others who have a passion for children. This year the event will benefit Deputy Dan Witt's four young children; Harrison and Maddie Boyd; and Cody Williams, who has the rare congenital disorder Arthrogryposis. The Springs Must be protected at All costs. If these Springs were to dry up so would major water supplies such as Rivers and Lakes and Wells. However, these springs will dry up since we are getting Less and Less Rain ( I believe our Rain is being stopped or controlled Unaturaly by Stupidity in Science and Government ) and More people pumping it.
