The calf, Jiyu, is doing well after being born three days before Mother's Day, according to zoo officials.
Susan Harmeling, executive director of the Gasparilla Distance Classic, was in Boston for the marathon on Monday. Since returning to Tampa Bay, Harmeling spoke with officials at the Tampa Police Department about proceeding with the 2014 race.
Registration is free, and includes an official tote bag, continental breakfast, access to exhibits and an awards luncheon, and admission to all workshops.
The two-week event is held in October for anyone age 50 and older.
