The Lutz-based group brings in people who might not otherwise have ever stepped into a church, band members say.
As 2012 comes to a close, Lutz Patch is taking a look back at some of the stories we've covered since the site launched in August, as we look forward to a new year in the Lutz community. In September, we brought you the story of a local band that's out to change the face of Christianity: They have attitude, and they have grace. They’re Christian musicians “hell-bent” on changing the world, one song—one person—at a time. The Lutz-based Drinking Band with a Worship Problem came together somewhat serendipitously. Elizabeth Olson Bergeron, 35, was invited to sing at a funeral at Tim’s Memorial Presbyterian Church in early 2011. The free concert at the old Lutz train depot will feature performances by Drinking Band with a Worship Problem.

The event will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the old Lutz train depot with performances by Drinking Band with a Worship Problem, a contemporary Christian band “hell-bent” on changing the world. After the music, teens and kids head off to other areas for their lessons. The Bergerons' daughter, Danika, 14, leads the youngsters; son Dominick, 16, leads the teens. Some children go back and forth between the Bergerons’ living room and the dining room, where the children's lessons are held, carrying bowls of food and plopping down in the middle of the floor to listen to the grownups…

It was there the lifelong vocalist—with seven Grand Ole Oprey performances under her belt—reconnected with childhood friend Adam Balic. Balic, who Bergeron recalled as a “troublemaker” in high school, was the church’s contemporary services leader. Bergeron was invited to join the worship team, and the rest is not history, rather just the beginning of something that has people talking—and listening. The …
